Fluoroplast (PTFE)
 

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) – is a synthetic fluoropolymer of tetrafluoroethylene which finds numerous applications. PTFE contains atoms of fluorine what give its high chemical resistance. PTFE doesn’t dissolve (or dissolve very poorly) in many organic solvents and in water. PTFE hold the wide range of mechanical properties, good dielectric characteristics, high electric strength, low friction coefficient, low figures of deterioration, are stable to different corrosive medium, has atmospherability, corrosionability, radiotionabolity, poorly gas permeable, un-combustible or self-instinct provided ignition.

Together with high chemical resistance, PTFE has also poor porosity, hydrophobia, excellent electrical and mechanical properties. Operating temperatures of PTFE are from -269?C to +260?C, taking into account that the upper bound is limited by lowering physical-mechanical properties, but not losing the chemical strength. By heating over +327?C occurs melting, but polymer don’t turn into viscous-flow state up to +415?C.

By chemical characteristics PTFE excel even noble metals and special steel. Dielectric characteristics of PTFE stay the same up to +200?C, and the chemical - +300?C.
